regreSSHion is a race condition in the OpenSSH server sshd. If a client does not authenticate within the allowed time, sshd handles a signal in an unsafe way. It is a regression of the old flaw CVE-2006-5051 and affects Portable OpenSSH 8.5p1 to 9.7p1.
The NVD rates it at CVSS 8.1. According to the OpenSSH release notes, code execution as root has been shown on 32-bit Linux systems with glibc, on average after 6 to 8 hours of continuous connections; OpenBSD is not affected. CISA does not list the flaw as actively exploited.
